In 2022, Elite Latin Dance Co. travelled from the Gold Coast to Melbourne for the Rumbia Latin Dance Festival – one of the trips that reminded us how much of dance happens beyond the weekly class timetable.
A dance weekend away together
Festival trips give dancers a chance to step outside their normal routine, experience another Latin dance community and spend time together away from the studio. For Elite, Melbourne was as much about the shared experience as the dancing itself.
Rumbia brought together workshops, social dancing and the atmosphere of a full dance weekend. Travelling as an Elite group gave us the opportunity to learn, dance and make memories together in a completely different setting.
The team experience
There is a lot more to a team trip than the moments people see on the dance floor. Getting ready together, supporting each other and spending time between sessions are all part of the experience.
Performance, people and memories
The Melbourne weekend also gave the Elite team another chance to share the work we had been doing together and enjoy the energy that comes with travelling as a group.
More than classes
Trips like this became part of what we loved about the Elite community: students did not just turn up for a class and go home. Dance created friendships, shared goals and experiences that travelled well beyond the Gold Coast.
