Three years of long-distance coaching produced another remarkable set of results for Cairns dancers David and Andrey at World Salsa Solo 2025.
The pair placed 2nd in their partnered Salsa routine, missing first place by less than one point. David also won his Masters Salsa Solo division for the third year in a row, while Andrey placed 2nd in her Cha Cha solo debut.
Competition coaching from Cairns to the Gold Coast
What makes the result particularly special is how the training has been delivered. David and Andrey live in Cairns and have been coached by Elite director Kristi Hall for around three years, with approximately 95% of their coaching completed remotely via Zoom.
Occasional in-person lessons are fitted in when the opportunity arises, but the bulk of the technical work, choreography refinement and competition preparation happens online.
Remote lessons can still be highly specific
For experienced dancers, online coaching can be far more detailed than simply learning steps from a screen. Camera angles, repeated video review and focused technical assignments allow the lesson to target timing, body action, foot placement, presentation, choreography and performance quality.
David and Andrey’s continued results are a strong example of what consistent remote coaching can achieve. Learn more about Elite’s private and remote Latin dance coaching and our Salsa training.
